Textbooks and teaching materials

 

One of the CEP core activities is related to the development of textbooks and teaching materials.

Since 2013, CEP has been working on the project that involves the following activities:

 1) Developing textbooks and teaching materials according to the educational programme of Nazarbyev Intellectual Schools AEO NIS-Programme (hereinafter-NIS-Programme) to introduce them in the learning process across the Intellectual schools;

2) Aligning textbooks and teaching materials with the NIS-Programme and developing textbooks for mainstream schools according to the State Compulsory Educational Standards of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – SCES).

 Textbooks and teaching materials were developed jointly with such internationally recognized educational organizations as Cambridge University Press and Institute of Education, University College of London.

 NIS textbooks and teaching materials 

  • correspond to student’s age characteristics, interests and needs;
  • implement system-activity, value-based, person-oriented and differentiated approaches;
  • gradually deepen, complicate and build student’s knowledge and skills;
  • include new approaches to assessment;
  • aimed to develop functional literacy;
  • develop research skills, critical thinking, the ability to find and analyze information and creatively apply new knowledge;
  • develop independent learning skills;
  • include a national component;
  • provide intra-subject integration through the spiral learning principle and cross-curricular links via cross-cutting topics.

 

NIS-Programme based textbooks and teaching materials

 A list of textbooks and teaching materials developed for the Intellectual schools:

 · Grade 1:10 textbooks and teaching materials in 5 subjects (30 names) developed from February, 2013 to September, 2015; introduced into the educational process of the Intellectual Schools in Kokshetau and Taldykorgan cities and International School of Nur-Sultan in 2015;

· Grade 2: 10 textbooks and teaching materials in 5 subjects (28 names) developed from March, 2014 to September, 2015; introduced into the educational process in 2016;

· Grade 7: 23 textbooks and teaching materials in 9 subjects (46 names) developed from June, 2014 to July, 2018; introduced into the educational process of the Intellectual Schools in the 2018-2019 academic year;

· Grade 8: 12 textbooks and teaching materials in 9 subjects (28 names) developed from April, 2016 to July, 2019; introduced into the educational process of the Intellectual Schools in the 2019-2020 academic year;

· Grade 9: 12 textbooks and teaching materials in 9 subjects (28 names) developed from March, 2018 to July, 2020; introduced into the educational process of the Intellectual Schools in the 2020-2021 academic year;

· Grade 10: 12 textbooks and teaching materials in 9 subjects (28 names) having been developed from May, 2019 to August, 2021;

· Grade 11: 6 textbooks and teaching materials in 5 subjects (12 names) having been developed since March, 2019. In the 2020-2021 academic year, they will be piloted in the Intellectual Schools.

· Grade 12: 6 textbooks and teaching materials in 5 subjects (12 names) having been developed from November, 2020 to August, 2023.

 SCES-based textbooks and teaching materials

 A list of textbooks and teaching materials developed for mainstream schools:

 · Grade 1: 12 textbooks and teaching materials in 8 subjects (78 names) developed from April, 2015 to May, 2016, 6 textbooks and teaching materials in Mathematics, World understanding, and Science were recommended by the MoE as basic textbooks written in Kazakh and Russian;

· Grade 2: 16 textbooks and teaching materials in 11 subjects (84 names) developed from September, 2015 to May, 2017, 1 textbook and teaching material in Science was recommended by the MoE as a basic textbook developed in Kazakh;

· Grade 3: 18 textbooks and teaching materials in 12 subject (96 names) developed from April, 2016 to May, 2018, 1 textbook and teaching material in Science was recommended by the MoE as a basic textbook developed in Kazakh and supplemented by the AR NIS application;

· Grade 4: 6 textbooks and teaching materials in 3 subjects (36 names) developed from April, 2017 to May, 2019, 2 textbooks and teaching materials in Science were recommended by the MoE as basic textbooks developed in Kazakh and Russian and supplemented by the AR NIS application;

· Grade 5: 16 textbooks and teaching materials in 11 subjects (45 names) developed from May, 2016 to December, 2017, 6 textbooks and teaching materials in History of Kazakhstan and World History developed in Kazakh and Russian, in Russian (L1) and Science developed in Russian were recommended by the MoE as alternative textbooks;

· Grade 7: 28 textbooks and teaching materials in 17 subjects (61 names) developed from May, 2016 to December, 2017, 4 textbooks and teaching materials in Arts and Crafts (for boys and for girls) developed in Kazakh and Russian were recommended by the MoE as alternative textbooks.
