International theoretical and practical workshop on “Contemporary education and its change in terms of poly language challenges”

On February 8-9, 2016 representatives of Center of Educational Programmes and teachers of Kazakh, Russian and English languages of Nazarbayev Intellectual schools took part in International theoretical and practical workshop on “Contemporary education and its change in terms of poly language”, which was organized by Kazakh University of Law and Humanities, Astana Education Department, Eurasian National University named L.Gumilyov. Representatives of higher education institutions and teachers of secondary schools also participated in this workshop.

Within the workshop important poly language issues and development of trilingual policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed, experience exchanged with Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS) teachers, contemporary national achievements in teaching Kazakh, Russian and English, as well as its perspectives of development was analyzed.

Deputy Director of the Centre Makpal Jadrina, doctor of pedagogical sciences made a speech on current innovations in education system in the plenary session.

Center specialists Zh.Abuov, G.Kozhamkulova, A.Aitbayeva made reports on linguistic subjects content and new ways to teach it during workshop sections “Strategy of quality education: AEO “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” experience”, “Trilingual education in Kazakhstan: research and solutions”, “Pedagogical excellence and professional development of secondary school teachers and higher institutions representatives”. Senior manager of the Center Z.Shegenova reported on teaching “History of Kazakhstan” subject on Kazakh in Intellectual schools. 19 teachers took part in sections “Kazakh language and literature”, “Russian language and literature”, “English language and literature”. Russian language teachers: A.Barmina (NIS PM Kostanay city), E.Klokova, G. Kim (NIS PM Taldykorgan city), A.Makanova (NIS PM Pavlodar city), Zh.Omarova (NIS CB Kyzylorda city), N.Krivosheeva (NIS CB Almaty) published articles in collected speeches of the workshop. Following persons made the speeches:

Participants greatly attended to all speeches. They took part in discussions and proposed their opinion on trilingual education, as well as on methods used at teaching language subjects in NIS. Intellectual schools teachers demonstrated master-classes, introduced teaching experience in NIS, as well as shared methodological materials.

The participants highlighted the importance of workshop, pointed actuality of discussed issues, along with this they stated on necessity of popularizing NIS experience in introducing trilingual education. Also as the workshop summary there was proposed to continue holding master-classes on pedagogical excellence, workshops and conferences aided by authors of textbook for Kazakhstan secondary schools within the renewal of education content. Besides of that, there was recommended to introduce “Functional literacy” to modular educational programmes in higher institutions, which prepare specialists to teach Kazakh language and literature, Russian language and literature, English language.
