The workshop for 11 subject teachers and for the 10 stuff members of the center on “Content and language integrated learning” was held at the «Centre for Educational programmes» AEO“Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” on July 19-24, 2013.

The workshop for 11 subject teachers and for the 10 stuff members of the center on “Content and language integrated learning” was held at the «Centre for Educational programmes» AEO“Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” on July 19-24, 2013. This workshop was provided by international educational consultant Rosie Tanner.
During the workshop, the teachers were introduced to different strategies on developing language skills in teaching subjects through the second language. Also, participants had an opportunity to learn concepts such as BICS - Basic interpersonal communicative skills and CALP - Cognitive academic language proficiency as well as 4 Cs of this approach namely content, communication, cognition and culture.
In addition, on the last day of the workshop the participants had an opportunity to conduct a micro-teaching to consolidate their knowledge and skills, where they were given a feedback from audience and the consultant.

3-5 April 2013 Training workshop “Train the trainer” for CEP staff provided by CIE.

On the 3-5 of April, the training workshop “Train the trainer” was held for CEP specialists provided by CIE consultant Keely Laycock. 3 day workshop focused on methodologies, tools and principles of effective training that CEP specialists will apply whilst delivering their own training for teachers in summer. Mrs. Laycock introduced specialists to the set of key training skills and demonstrated how these can be used. The topics of discussion included:

  • types of ice breaking games in order to develop trust between participants and the trainer;
  • active listening, which provides an effective reflection between participants and the trainer;
  • effective feedback approaches, including one`s reaction on negative vs. positive feedback;
  • Kolb learning cycle;
  • Facilitation and its types as well as difference between facilitation, coaching and mentoring;

The training sessions are a mix of teaching and hands-on works that were used evenly thought out the 3 day workshop. Participants have worked both in groups as well as individual.

Training workshop in Quality assurance for CEP staff provided by CIE.

On the 21-23 of February, the training workshop for CEP staff was help in CEP with the participation of CIE consultant Dittany Rose. During workshop the following topics were reviewed and discussed:

  • effective time-management
  • processes that happen in organizations and how to distinguish such processes in your work
  • base of effective documentation
  • rules of document development
  • creation and use of flow charts.

As the consequence of the workshop, it was decided to follow quality assurance process more carefully and therefore, to develop the following documents that the internal use in CEP:

  • Standards and regulations of CEP
  • Proofreading guide
  • Translation guide
  • Style guide

20-21 November, 2012 – study NVivo

NVivo is a qualitative data analysis (QDA) computer software package produced by QSR International. It has been designed for qualitative researchers working with very rich text-based and/or multimedia information, where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required. What is qualitative research software?

The qualitative research software like NVivo, helps people to manage, shape and make sense of unstructured information. It doesn't do the thinking for you; it provides a workspace and tools to enable you to easily work through your information.

With purpose built tools for classifying, sorting and arranging information, the qualitative research software gives you more time to analyze your materials, identify themes, glean insight and develop meaningful conclusions in the field of Action Research, dialogue analysis, literature overview and gives the opportunity to the scholars to check the theories, reveal the tendencies, make the observations in this programme, construct the models to prove or reject the hypotheses.

У22-26 October, 2012 – Action Research

Participation of the NIS teachers and representatives of the Center for Educational Programmes in 5 day seminar to understand the principles of conducting the Action Research. Colleen McLaughlin from the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge conducted this seminar and the participants had an opportunity to meet with the representatives of British schools and the University of Cambridge which are involved in the SUPER project. The visits to schools were organized to observe the classes and to discuss the action research issues with the teachers, students and school administration. After their return each group of participants (AEO NIS, EQAD, EPPD, CEP and 6 Intellectual Schools) discussed the information and made action plan for Action Research.
